Mounted Games

Mounted Games is an equestrian sport based on a team of 5 playing games in a relay format involving various obstacles and challenges.  It develops skill, a bond with your pony and a great level of horsemanship for the rider. It is an excellent introduction to younger members who gain confidence and control of their ponies while having fun. As members acquire skills and confidence they receive specialised training to improve their games skills.

Mounted Games is divided into 3 age categories based on the age of the rider on January 1st of the year they wish to play;  U10s, Juniors (U15) and Seniors (U15). Ponies must be 148cm or under. Full rules can be read here Mounted Games Rulebook

The Irish Pony Club Mounted Games committee run a number of competitions throughout the season, including the IPC festival in Barnadown (late July) and the Ploughing Championships. All age groups compete, with each category competition running for approximately 1½ hours so plenty of riding time for each rider! It is a lot of fun with optional overnight stays in venues all over the country . The parents are very much involved, putting out the equipment for each
race. It is a truly a family activity and great for adult friendships too! The dates and venues can be found here club calendar

The Senior team have the fantastic opportunity every year to qualify for the RDS Dublin Horse Show, the pinnacle of the Mounted Games year for Senior players. There are 4 RDS qualifiers for the senior team.

Practice starts in Kildare approximately mid March when it starts to get a bit warmer. New players of all ages are very welcome to the weekly training at Punchestown. We often start the season in the sand arenas but when the weather gets better we move to the main grass arena. All training dates and details will be on the club calendar.
