Mounted Games
Mounted Games is for all ages within the pony club and is an excellent introduction to younger members who gain confidence and control of their ponies while having fun. As members acquire skills and confidence they receive specialised training to improve their games skills.
Mounted Games Competitions
Training is weekly from April to August inclusive. Details will appear in the most recent schedule. You book in the normal fashion with the organiser of the rally/competition.
There are three age categories: Under 10, Junior (U13) and Senior (U16). KHPC Mounted Games Training commences in early April and continues weekly throughout the summer in Punchestown. Teams compete at various competitions throughout the country during June, July and August. U10s and Juniors compete to reach the Irish Pony Club Championships (usually the end of July). Kildare is part of Area 2 and our Mounted Games Qualifier for U10s and Juniors is at Stradbally at the beginning of July. Seniors go through a series of four qualifiers for a place at the final in the RDS. There are also Pairs competitions for riders over 13 and under 21 years.
The Irish Pony Club provide opportunities for successful riders to represent Ireland abroad by attending trials in January every year. Many KHPC members have travelled to Royal Windsor Horse Show, Royal Bath and West Show, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each year. The Irish Pony Club host an international competition in October at the Curragh and teams from England, Scotland and Wales compete with Ireland at Junior and Senior level. This event wraps up the Mounted Games season.
